This is a '54 kombi I took a couple pictures of at the Sprint '95 SOTO get together in Sacramento California, at Ancil Hoffman Park. Notice the safari windows! Barndoor safaris are different than "normal" safari windows; they have two hinges, which are exposed, not hidden underneath like later ones. The hinges bolt on above the window frame. Kinda ugly, but they are correct.

'54 Single Cab, all complete and working. It has NOS bumpers front and rear, an extra working speedo set to 0 miles, as well as the perfectly good one installed, an extra set of nos wheel cylinders, all very straight, only a slight bit of body work needed in the nose, very very slight. It has incorrect upholstery, but nicely done. All the dash is correct, as are the panels inside. Bed is very straight as are the gates. Comes with a cool, if not original roof rack. 5 16" wheels with good ol bias ply tires. 36hp engine that runs very well. It needs an apron for the engine compartment. The guys who have traded this back and forth the last 5 or 6 years have spent a lot of time and money. All it needs is paint and a home.

I got these pictures from Jon Christensen. Steve Carr owns this single cab, and it is currently undergoing restoration. The pickup has spent its entire life in eastern Kansas, although the PO has lived in CA for many years. The original owner sold it to a teenager in the late 1960's. He stored the vehicle at a friend's horse pasture until Jon Christensen and Steve Carr dragged it home about three years ago.

09/20/02 Clay Brethour In Sept 02, this single cab was "dragged" to a new home. I am currently in the process of restoring it. I will be taking many pictures during and after to post on this board every so often. I've been really fortunate to met and get to know Steve and to have the ability to restore this great VW. Mark my words, next time this VW is on the road, it will be on its own power.
