| 07/08/03 | john walker | pic 7 shows the boxed rear frame area. just boxed it from the shocks back. the tank remains in the stock location, which is in a closed area in a doublecab, and not out in the open behind the engine like a normal bus. the nose of the trans needed some clearance into the lower rear of that closed area, so notch 6" wide by about 2' deep was cut, and then sheetmetal was bent and welded in to close the hole. this job took about a month of weekends, but i run a shop and had all the tools. i didn't take pics of the rack and pinion, but next time it's on the rack i will post some. |

after seeing your 911 bus it has spurred me to ask some questions did you have to reinforce the whole chassis before you put the engine in? also did you remove the fuel tank to put the engine which i think is much longer inside? me and my father have been thinking of increasing the engine capacity of our camper (which is on this website if you search under lowered) what advice would you give in reinforcing the chassis without replacing everything? please reply ben miguras |
