BURNING BENICIA BUS I know you all heard it before...Carry a fire extinguisher! As I was driving home from work today I noticed a fellow bus owner I sometimes see, who lives a few towns away. Except this time she was "standing" in back of her bus. I turned mine around to see what was going on. As I made it over to her she started off again... Thinking all may not be well, I followed here for about 50 ft and then...SMOKE and FLAMES shot out the rear! After lots of manic BEEPING the horn and FLASHING the lights she pulled over. No time to say hi. She popped out w/tool in hand and flung open the lid. At the same time I grabbed the extinguisher from behind my front seat... shot that white spray in there and the flames were out....whoops...OK...now there OUT. Well now we both have another weird bus karma kind of story to tell our friends After a call to our mechanic (we found out we both go to the same guy) we found out that the little gas inlet thing to the carb sometimes just pops out! And then you have GAS shooting all over the place. SO make sure that gets in there good! Some type of epoxy should do the trick but I'm adding some bailing wire too just in case. The engine and compartment I'm sure will be fine, the flames only lasted for about 30 seconds. P.S. She and I both had charged fire extinguishers ready to go. Just replace these things every six months...I don't trust 'em: I carry two of them...but that's another story. -David

07/14/06 bill I also had the same thing happen just recently (6-06) and had the good fortune to have a fire extinguisher on hand. Saved the day. burned wires and some bubbles paint but everything is fixed now. I even put an extinguisher in my'73 Superbeetle.

I need a rebuilt steering Box for a 1965 bus. Anybody out there have any recommendations? What I have found so far are rebuilds form "the bus boys", "BFY Obsolete Parts", and "WOLFGANG INTERNATIONAL" Has any ones used these? any bad or good comments? Please let me know. I have a few thousand miles to drive this summer and smoother steering would be nice.

No more looking round swap meets for over priced damaged original trim. Our new repro Deluxe Body Trim is an EXACT duplicate of the original. Made from high grade pure Aluminium, we have had the front and door sections heat treated to make them malleable for ease of fitting, whilst the long straight bits are untreated to remain straight as an arrow for a perfect presentation. Our kit includes all the pieces you need trimmed to length and includes end caps and stainless steel fixing screws. Infill is available in Black or Red.

The problem with original VW pop outs is that they rust big time. To over come this problem, we manufacture ours by extruding them in T6 Aluminium. Our extrusion die produces an exact replica profile of the original item .We then machine the extrusion using a state of the art CNC milling machine. All holes are drilled and tapped to exacting standards to give you trouble free assembly and fitment. We supply the frames in standard finish for you to paint or polish, or polished to show standard. We also can supply you with new glass in clear or tinted, seals ,hinges and fitting templates for locating hinges on your body. When ordering please state if you are using 5mm original VW glass, or aftermarket 4mm glass as this affects which glass to frame seal we will supply you with.
