I drive shuttles for a rafting outfitter here in central Oregon, today while at the Warm Springs bridge , on the Deschutes River, I see a work in progress pull into the parking area. A 66 peanut top splitty. As I have some time while I'm waiting for my clients to get there gear packed away , I go over to ask if they know of "Vintage Bus". No is the answer, hummm;.. next I ask, how about " the samba .com" Oh yea!... Iv'e heard of that...... I ask for permission to photo the bus, Granted, they say, .Artie & Debby of which I don't know owns the work in progress, grants me permission to photo the bus. Although they were a friendly pair, getting them to stand by there bus was not to be. respectfully submitted. t tacker Maupin, Or.

I finally inquired about the availability of this 58 VW Panel van. I'd known about it for years, but didn't have the ambition. Not that I've discovered any since, but my curiosity got the best of me a week ago. To make a long story short, all the owner was concerned about was a place to keep his Model T parts dry. I traded a rusty domestic North American van for it. I also got a hard to find T coupe trunk with it, in case you think I might have gotten the short end of the deal. Plans are to replace all the rust with fresh metal. I'll be fabricating new parts with mostly home built forming equipment. This is a project that only a die hard enthusiast would tackle.(confession is good for the soul) In reality I can't afford a mint original. There is some thing about the personality of the V Dub vans that screams care for me.

05/30/03 Jeremy I agree your 58 is rough. I doubt it is worse than my 58 deluxe. However like you I will bring it back to life. I like to see some of your fab equipment. i am a metal working junky and love seeing others homemade tooling. I built my rail completely from scrap metal. It is alot of fun.Later-Jeremy

This is my project. A 1967 crew cab. This picture was taken near Guatemala's airport and this hard work mule is carrying 900 kg of cargo. This year will go to resto. His "reborn". THis is a bad picture, but a digital will arrive soon.

My wife and i picked up the bay in Scotland while living there to travel Europe. After an Aussie "house enamel" paint job, re-fit with fridge(for beer), hinging stove near sliding door, c.d.,new bed and more storage we were off for 4 1/2 months. Making carbi gaskits somewhere in Germany was fun!

I'm from Melbourne, and picked up this pop-top camper locally about a year ago, and money permitting will be started on shortly. Good to know there are still some good cheap splitty's around!

This is the 1966 splittie we brought home for $400. It is already slammed. we will be putting an 1835 cc engine in it and restoring the body with stock sheetmetal and trim. It is quite a project, but the money was right........more to come as it evolves
