09/06/03 Dan Mikal Sr. A very cool looking engine. Can you give some details, manufactured parts, painting, exhaust design. What's with the obvious fan - engine cooling or heater source or ?. Is it the original engine?

Which I read as he's putting that engine in his bus that he bought for $100.

How do you get "buy a $100 bus and get this beutiful Engine" out of that?

This bus has been founded by me in a small town of south of Norway in july 2002 during a trip for my company enployer. After more than on year without thinking one minute to save this D crew I 've meet a guy from norway "playing vw's too" in a vw belgium meeting, and he was living not far from the tonw where he was. So this Guy made the deal for me whive a few $$ and a lot of negociations.. and finaly the 5 january , the bus was in his new home, in my garage in france.. (sorry for my bad enghish) D crew is in good conditions, not a lot of work model is a December 61 engine is still original and running.. david from france

Damn I hate to see these wheel wells cut. Project Doppel Kabbin coming along, next up: Right Rocker inner/outter...gates,,,floors...Ohhh the madness!!!

61 double cab project
Today I installed the hoopty-mouse-infested engine. It seems to run well, just looks like crap. New muffler, carb, plugs, wires, distributor, oil cooler, and generator.

The SC is 1st cab off the rank- I've an 11 window '67 bus & a '67 part camper (very late-gen factory 12 volt) waiting. After 27 years in business I've got out & am working only 3 days a week so I've got plenty of time! The rotisserie was copied from the "solo hobbit" reference at www.dropgates.com under resto tips "rotisserie". I didn't use his camper jacks- they were very expensive in Australia- to lift it up. Instead I used a 1500mm length of 24mm threaded rod at each end. I welded a nut to suit the thread to a piece of angle which was then welded to the lifting piece. The bottom of the rod pushes down into a bucket made of 30mm ID pipe filled with grease & washers. The top has a welded nut which turns & lifts each end about 3-4inches at a time before I have to swap ends. Mounts to the front beam & at the rear to the rear apron mounts with cross bracing to the rear bumper mount. It can go 360 degrees but I choose to do only about 270 & lock one of the beams on the ground for stability. I've included photos of the rest of my fleet-enjoy!
