Not too many in H-town's art car community would notice where several VWs have been used as art cars - the VW T1 and T2 is considered old school when it comes to art cars. Everyone would base their art cars on non-VWs since the T1 and T2 have been sought after as collector's items.
In the background, Planet Karmann (a 71 Karmann Ghia) and the Sun Goddess (a 67 Kombi) are sandwiched between 2 Chevrolet pickups (88 C2500 - known as the Pink Slip) and the Montrose Patriot (81 K5 Blazer 4 x 4).
Although I am the current docent to the Montrose Patriot (which is a current daily driver), some of my art car entourage include aircooled VWs.

In H-Town, a few VW Buses, both splitties and Bay Windows, have been part of the art car community. A 1967 Bus which is a creation of artist Shelley Buschur has been part of the art car community for several years (she also has a Planet Karmann art car based on a Karmann Ghia ragtop).

Found sitting in a yard in Grant,Alabama.Luckily under a cover, and over a paved driveway.Wife fell in love with it at first site.Had it flat bedded home.Checked the oil,and she fired right up!Put air in the tires, and we`ve been driving it for 2 weeks now.Drove her to the big 4th of July fireworks celebration on Lake Guntersville,Alabama.Everyone had to come over, and see her.Goes in the shop in a week,or two,for a full service. Then new tires, and exhaust.Hopefully over the winter she`ll get a new coat of paint.Turns out to be an Alabama bus(No road-salt here!).Sold new at Bridge`s VW,Birmingham,Alabama.Oh well, now I`ve got to sell the wife`s car,and restore the Kombi.Anyone want to buy a good BMW Convertible cheap?

This is my Zebra Bus, inspired by the safari game viewing buses I remember from my childhood. It is a 1975 "Fleetline" Kombi. These were assembled in South Africa one year only from Brazilian CKD kits. There were three variants, the 15-window Kombi as shown, panelvans, and wide-bodied pick-ups. These RHD buses were probably the last splitties built anywhere in the world.

This is a shop down the street from me, 40 years ago. The original emblem was removed from that bus and replaced with a blaupunkt emblem.I aquired that perfect orig emblem and that pic from a sale after the old man died.
