Recently acquired in NH. A few issues to correct during STAGE ONE restoration, but I think it's a "diamond in the rough". Hoping to do a full restoration over 2-3 years. Anyone know where I can find SEALING WAX RED paint? Planning to do a red/white two tone.

This is me and my fathers newest purchase,a 1962 double cab. A bit of rust but complete with new body parts and other spare parts from the previous owner. Found and bought in the dark woods of norway. Does anybody know how rare the early double cabs are ? Or how many there where built?

This bus has been founded by me in a small town of south of Norway in july 2002 during a trip for my company enployer. After more than on year without thinking one minute to save this D crew I 've meet a guy from norway "playing vw's too" in a vw belgium meeting, and he was living not far from the tonw where he was. So this Guy made the deal for me whive a few $$ and a lot of negociations.. and finaly the 5 january , the bus was in his new home, in my garage in france..
(sorry for my bad enghish) D crew is in good conditions, not a lot of work model is a December 61 engine is still original and running..

I ended up separatating the driver and passenger sides, which will make handling the sections easier. I cut on the inside of the big raised seam that joines the inner 'wall' of the compartment and the middle and outer sections of the seat pedestal. It is this middle section that is specific to a walk-thru - the outer is the same.

This weld is sorta almost complete, but crappy. They also didn't run the taillight wires thru the frame and up the channel like they're supposed to go, but instead brought them over the shelf and across the edge of the battery tray.

The double cab is coming back from the paint shop where it got a few touch ups before final assembly. Over the course of 1 1/2 years of fitting everything, I made two small scratchs. My friend the painter absolutely wanted to fix them along with a few other problems he noticed after it was first painted. It's one more hurdle to get the rear end narrowed 1 inch and then it's a sprint to the finish line! Wish me luck. :-)
